Double Bed Baby Bootie
The booties are written in three different sizes but no measurements are given. I’ll just call them Small, Medium and Large. They are knit from the sole up to the end of the cuff, which is folded down. The Medium and Large sizes will need ribbons to keep the booties on Baby’s feet. Ribber should be in Half Pitch, unless otherwise stated. The sole of the bootie is shaped by circular rows.
Fingering Weight Yarn: Such as Mary Lue’s Harmony, Bramwell Duo Magic, Tamm Kitty, Fortissima Socka or 2 strands of 2/24 acrylic
Main Tension is T 4/4
Bottom of Bootie:
Cast on Full Needle Rib according to your Ribber Manual
Push 27 (31, 35) sts on the Main Bed all the way out – extra st on the left
Push up corresponding Ribber Sts. Both end needles are on the Main Bed.
Run the connected carriages across all the needles to line them up
T 0/0, carriage on Right - Knit Zigzag row. Hang Comb and one weight
Knit 2 circular rows – opposite Part buttons, it doesn’t matter which ones. Continue knitting with carriages still set to Circular Knitting.
T 1/1 - knit 2 rows
T 2/2 – knit 2 rows
T 3/3 – knit 2 rows
T 4/4 – knit 2 rows
Body of Bootie:
T 4/4 – knit 15 (17, 19) rows in Half Fisherman Rib
Main Carriage: Left Tuck Button
Ribber Carriage: Normal
Top of Bootie Shaping:
Decrease 1 st each side on each bed – knit 2 rows
Repeat 4 (5, 6) times
19 (21, 23) sts
Eyelets for Ribbon (Medium & Large Sizes only):
Set both carriages to Normal.
Transfer Every Other Stitch on the Main Bed to the st next to it. Keep empty needles in work. Knit 2 rows.
Cuff:
Knit 30 rows (all sizes) in English Rib (Shaker Knit)
Main Carriage: Normal
Ribber Carriage: P Lever & Right PR Button Up
Bind Off:
(Several Different Options)Option 1 (Loop-through-Loop Method)
1) Set carriages to Normal and knit 1 row in Full Needle Rib
2) Transfer all the Ribber sts to the Main Bed (2 sts on each ndl)
3) Push up all the Ribber ndls (empty) and knit 1 row at T10/8. This makes great big loops. Drop all the loops by running the Ribber Carriage back and forth.
4) Break yarn
5) Drop Ribber bed and Slip St one loop through the next starting on the side opposite the yarn tail
Option 2 (Backstitch Method)
1) Set carriages to Normal and knit 1 row in Full Needle Rib, Tension 8/8
2) Transfer all the Ribber sts to the Main Bed (2 sts on each ndl), Knit 1 row. Carriage is on the Right side of your knitting machine.
3) Break yarn leaving a long tail for finishing with a Backstitch.
4) Scrap Off.
Option 3 (Backstitch Alternate Beds)
1) T 10/8 – Both carriages set to Normal. Knit 1 row. Carriage on Right.
2) Give yourself about a yard of yarn and cut. Feed the end down between the two beds and hook the loose end of the yarn around the yarn clip on the cast-on comb to keep it out of the way.
3) Scrap off:
Knit 10 rows on Main Bed only
Main Carriage: Normal
Ribber Carriage: Both PR Buttons up
Do not cut scrap yarn, but hold several inches of yarn securely with your hand under the knitting machine
Knit 10 rows on Ribber Bed only
Main Carriage: Both Part Buttons pushed in
Ribber Carriage: Normal
4) Release bootie from knitting machine
5) Finish edge with a loose Backstitch, alternating between the sts on the front and back scrap. It will be very easy to see the sts.
Finishing:
Put Shaker Knit sides together and stitch the seam starting at the Cuff using the Bee’s Knees flat seam (knot/loop on one side knot/loop on the opposite).
Reverse right sides together at the top of the Bootie Shaping (Half Fisherman Rib) and continue to seam picking up one side of each stitch on each side.
At Sole of Bootie, I sewed the sts together from side-to-side by running my needle through Cast-on sts.
