Double Bed Baby Hat

This pattern is written in three different sizes but no measurements are given. I’ll just call them Small, Medium and Large. They are knit from the cuff to the top of the head. The cuff is folded up; the top is gathered. No ribbons are required.

Fingering Weight Yarn: Such as Mary Lue’s Harmony, Bramwell Duo Magic, Tamm Kitty, Fortissima Socka or 2 strands of 2/24 acrylic

Main Tension is T 4/4

Ribber should be at Half Pitch, unless otherwise stated.

Racked Cast-On:

Based on a technique by Mary Anne Oger and used here with permission.

Swing H-5; bring 50 (60, 70) sts on the Main Bed all the way out – extra st on the left. Bring up corresponding Ribber Sts - both end needles are on the Main Bed. Carriages, at the left side, set to knit both beds, both ways. Knit zigzag row at T3/3, knit 1 row. Hang comb.

Rack to H-4; bring all ndls out. Hang weights. T4/4, knit 1 row.

Rack to H-5; bring all ndls out

Cuff:

Knit 30 rows (all sizes) in Shaker Knit (English Rib)

Main Carriage Normal

Ribber Carriage: P Lever & Right PR Button Up

Hat:

Knit 30 (40, 50) rows in Half Fisherman Rib

Main Carriage: Left Tuck Button

Ribber Carriage: Normal

Top Shaping:

Return both carriages to Normal and knit 10 rows in Full Needle Rib

Set up for 1 x 1 Rib as follows:

Transfer EON on Main Bed to the ndl next to it. Push empty ndls OOW

Swing to P on Ribber

Transfer EON on Ribber Bed to the ndl next to it. Push empty ndls OOW. Make sure you transfer the sts directly below the sts in work on the Main Bed or you will jam your carriages

T2/2, knit 10 rows

Break yarn. Transfer Ribber sts to Main Bed. Use a double eye needle and remove sts to a double strand of yarn. Gather and fasten. Sew seam.
